THIS OLD HOUSE

The main reason I wanted to move home to Vancouver was to be closer to my family. Over the last couple of years both of my grandparents passed on and, while I have no regrets about spending four years away, it felt like a bit of a push to come back home and settle in for a good long stay. Yesterday I visited my grandparent's house for the last time which they bought in the 50's. It's the home that my mother and her sisters grew up in and it played a large role in my childhood as well. Seeing it now, empty and silent, was bittersweet to say the least. I'm glad I had the opportunity to capture the little details that remind me of them and got the chance to say one last good-bye.

  1. These are really lovely. Sad but also so pretty. Looks like it was a good day to say good bye, with that beautiful tree.

  5. lovely pictures, and it's wonderful that you got the chance to say goodbye.

when my nanna passed away two years ago, i snapped off a couple of geranium stalks from her garden as i was leaving it for the last time, and stuck them in a couple of pots at home.

those two stalks are now two bushes, and i've already snapped off a few more stalks from these to propagate some more. and i think about her and her house every time i see them; it's such a nice memory for me.

and no doubt you'll be able to look at these photos and think of your grandparents for many years to come :)
