VANCOUVER GOODIES

natural goodies
natural goodies

Some old and new goodies I collected in Vancouver:

+ I spent some time at the fabulous dye store Maiwa in Granville island where I picked up some new dyes (pictured here is cochineal which gives the colour red and is made from a South American insect that feasts on the nopal cactus) and a rope of Indian bells to 'repair' our broken doorbell.

+My mom surprised me with my new favourite mug by Meghann Hubert (the glaze is so gorgeous and the size is just perfect) and this beautiful Native American glass float.

+During a visit with my grandfather he gifted me with some old tools to help with leather working and one of the pieces was this sharpening stone.

+While having breakfast at the Naam I popped into Amethyst Creations and discovered the most beautiful (and affordable) hunks of amethyst. I quickly pocketed three.

+And finally - I had grand notions of collecting driftwood and bringing it back to Toronto to decorate my home. My mom and I spent an hour dodging waves and blowing on our cold fingers only to later discover that almost every one of them was too big to fit in my suitcase. The one pictured above measures about 7" x 2" and is the only piece to make it back east with me!

Ha, I did the same driftwood collecting thing with my own parents a few years ago on Vancouver Island. I got one piece home but the other large, beautiful piece is still sitting outside their house. Just too big to fly to Toronto.
